Richard Dale Pennington, 90, of Independence, MO, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022. A visitation will be held from 9-10am with a service following at 10am on Friday, July 1, 2022, both at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W Lexington Ave.; Independence, MO 64052. Interment will follow with full military honors at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Independence, MO.
Richard was born on January 9, 1932, in Bosworth, MO to Thomas and Clara (Potter) Pennington. He graduated from Bosworth High School and went on to proudly serve in the US Navy from 1952-1956, during the Korean Conflict. On June 27th, 1975, he married his beloved wife and best friend, Patricia.
Richard worked as a salesman for over 40 years for Paper Supply Company, now called International Paper. He was a member of the local Lion’s Club and VFW Post for many years. Richard was actively involved in his church, Sycamore Hills Baptist, for over 50 years, serving for a time as deacon.
Richard leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Patricia; his children, Michael Pennington, Sheryl (Mike) Janeski, Lisa (Jeff) Orndorff, and Stephen Plake; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and siblings, Fern Minnis, Bobby (Ruth Ann) Gardner, and Harold Blane (Nancy) Gardner.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Daniel Pennington and daughters, Teresa Florez and Katherine Hartford.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sycamore Hills Baptist Church.
