Pete Stephen Mejia, a father, pops, and friend, passed away on December 13, 2023, at the age of 75. He was born on July 18, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri to Pete Mejia and Amelia Flores. 

Pete attended and graduated from De La Salle High School. He dedicated his career to Hallmark Cards as a printer for an impressive span of 47 years. His commitment to his craft was unwavering, and he gained immense respect and admiration from his peers. Known for his meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic, Pete's contributions significantly impacted the success of the company.

Pete's vibrant personality illuminated every room he entered. Fun-loving and full of life, he had an infectious joy that uplifted those around him. His sense of humor and joyous spirit was truly remarkable. Pete valued all living beings but held a special place in his heart for people. His courteous nature and incredible morals made him a role model for everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. As a dedicated father, Pete strived to be an example for his children. He instilled within them the importance of treating women with respect and honor by demonstrating these qualities firsthand. His son learned how to be a gentleman from their interactions, while his daughter understood her worth through his unconditional love. Pete was more than just a compassionate individual; he actively engaged with his friends and family in various ways. He served as a grassroots leader, inspiring those around him to be better versions of themselves. Pete genuinely cared about making a positive impact on people's lives.

Pete is preceded in death by his mom; Amelia Flores, his grandparents; his aunts and uncles; Alice and Fritz Ermentout, Nettie and Jesse Martinez, and Andy Flores, his cousin; Larry "Tonto" Martinez, and his dog, Pete. He is survived by his children; Gina Miles, John Knapp, and Stefanie Mejia, his grandchildren; Kaitlin Knapp, Dharma Mejia, Libby Knapp, Emma Knapp, and Chloe Knapp, Shon Miles, his great-grandchildren; Jinx Miles and Jayden Miles, his cousins; Al Martinez, Sue Martinez, Greg Martinez, Marsha Howell, Suzanne Higbee, and several extended cousins, aunts, and uncles. The memory of Pete will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. He was a beacon of light and optimism, always seeing the good in others. His legacy of kindness, respect, and love will continue to inspire generations to come.

Services to honor Pete's life will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. The visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, starting at 5:00 PM and concluding at 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held the following day on December 21st, beginning at 10:00 AM with a graveside immediately following at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
