LaWedna Pearl Peterson, 92, of Independence, MO passed away January 26, 2018 at Benton House in Blue Springs, MO. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. A private graveside will be held later at Mound Grove Cemetery. LaWedna, or Lou as many knew her, was born July 6, 1925 in Puryear, TN to Elvin and Vala Seaton. She graduated from William Chrisman H.S. in Independence and later from the Nursing Cadet program at the Independence Sanitarium and hospital during World War II. She was united in marriage to Wilmer Peterson on November l7, 1946 from which they were blessed with four children, Steve, Craig, Vicki, and Scott. After Emery Bird Thayer closed in Kansas City, Wilmer was hired by Dillard’s, which took them to Little Rock, AR, Tulsa, OK and ultimately back to Independence. LaWedna worked for Allis Chalmers in Independence and the State of Oklahoma Health Dept. in Tulsa. She was a loving mother who enjoyed reading on preventive health, traveling, and keeping up with current events. She looked forward to shopping with her daughter and finding a good deal. She was also a life long member of the Community of Christ Church. LaWedna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilmer of 55 years, sister's Juanita Schoff and Fern Baldwin, brother Stanley Seaton and sons Dr. Stephen Peterson, Craig Peterson, and Scott Peterson. She leaves behind cherished memories with her daughter Vicki Campbell and husband David, daughter in law Darlene Peterson, four grandchildren Tyler Campbell, Ashley Campbell-Jones and husband Matt, Kevin Myers and wife Shannon, and Jason Myers and wife Raynna; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; along with nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Benton House for their patient and loving caregiving. They also wish to thank Encompass Hospice for their help, guidance and support during her final days.
