Martha Peterson, 98, of Independence, Mo. died September 22, 2006 at Rosewood in The Groves. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 6:00 P.M. at The Groves. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Manistique, Michigan. Martha was born in Gulliver, Michigan on August 29, 1908 the daughter of Theodore and Janet (Hewitt) Caffey. She attended Gulliver and Manistique schools. Martha and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm. She was recognized for her efforts in selling war bonds during World War II. She was a hard worker and enjoyed crochet, embroidery and quilting. Martha will be remembered as a wonderful mother with a great sense of humor who loved to bake and was an active volunteer at her church. Martha was a member of the Gulliver Branch of the Community of Christ Church in Michigan. She married Lawrence Peterson in Manistique, Michigan on June 20, 1940. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1978. She is survived by a daughter Mary Ouimette and her husband William of Virginia Beach, VA., by a son Larry Peterson and his wife Rebecca of Independence, Mo., and three grandchildren; Michael Ouimette of Virginia Beach, VA., Anna Boone and husband Erik of Traverse City, Michigan and Christopher Bacon who is serving in the Army and his wife Lisa. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Groves or to The Groves Community Hospice in her memory.
