RENE PETERSON
Rene Peterson passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at the age of 58 years old. Rene was born to Donald and Birgitt Peterson on June 14, 1963, in Berlin, Germany. After graduating high school in 1982 from Yorkville, Illinois, Rene enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served for several years. Rene previously worked as an engineer for the BNSF railroad. He also enjoyed working for several racing crews as part of the pit crew and dreamed of driving in Nascar. Fifteen years ago, Rene was in a life changing accident which left him paralyzed from the chest down. He was unable to walk but he did not let this disability slow him down. He started and operated his lawncare business, along with other projects which kept him busy. He competed in many marathons and traveled all over the U.S. to compete in the Paralyzed Veterans Games. Rene would always lend a helping hand to those in need. A cause that was very special to him was fixing up used wheelchairs and medical equipment to donate to veterans in need with the AMVETS vmapping program. Rene was the post officer 2nd vice-commander of Post 181 in Kansas City, Missouri. Rene helped in transporting veterans to and from medical appointments at the VA facilities. He also volunteered his time and performed search missions with his service dog Sariboui. Rene always looked forward to the placing of hundreds of flags along the roadways during holidays or special occasions. Rene's helpful, funny, witty personality will be missed greatly. Rene is preceded in death by his father Donald W. Peterson and his younger brother Andy Peterson. Rene is survived by his mother, Birgitt Peterson; younger brothers, Mickey, Dwayne, and Darin Peterson; caregiver and friend, Connie McPherson.
