Doris Irene Phillips (Brooner)

Doris Irene Phillips, 86, Independence, MO went to join her Lord and Savior Jan. 21, 2017. Services will be 12:30 pm, Thursday, Jan. 26 at Blue Ridge Baptist Church, 9320 E. 35th St., Independence, MO 64052; cremation. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wed. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Blue Ridge Baptist Church. Doris was born May 6, 1930 in Galena, KS and attended Riverton High School. She was a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church and was very active as a pre-school Sunday School teacher, choir member, volunteering at the food pantry and bake sales and was a member of the quilting group at church. She enjoyed various crafts, gardening and yard work. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years Harlan G. Phillips. She is survived by daughters Barbara Decker and husband Tom, Olathe, KS; Becky Reiss and husband Fred, Kansas City, MO; sons Randy Phillips and wife Shirley, Peculiar, MO; Mike Phillips, Garnett, KS; sister Jewell Shanks and husband Charles, Riverton, KS; step-sisters Ruth York, Archie, MO; Mary Weston, Topeka, KS; sister-in-law Mary Brooner, Columbus, KS; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
