Harlan G. Phillips, 87, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday October 5, 2005 at his home. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8th at Blue Ridge Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00 p.m. Cremation to follow with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Galena, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice. Harlan was born August 28, 1918 in Galena, KS to Wallace and Goldie (Fesler) Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a Mail Sorter for the U.S. Postal Service in Kansas City, MO. He and his wife participated in over 50 Volksmarches throughout the Midwest. Harlan enjoyed working crossword puzzles in his spare time. Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris (Brooner) Phillips of the home; children Barbara and Tom Decker of Olathe, KS, Rebecca and Fred Reiss of Kansas City, MO, Randy and Shirley Phillips of Grandview, MO, Michael Phillips of Garnett, KS; grandchildren Jennifer, Diane, Eric, Kerri, and Austin; 6 great-grandchildren. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister and 2 brothers.
