Joyce Phillips, 56, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, September 10th 2013. A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14th at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E 39th Street Independence.
Joyce was born June 2nd 1957 to Oliver Wayne and Helen (Maggart) Wilson, as one of four children. She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School. She later married Earl Phillips and together they raised two beautiful children. Joyce worked for 30 years caring for animals at both Jackson County and Susquehannah Animal Hospitals. She had a passion and love for all animals. She is described as smart, funny, supportive and most importantly honest. She was willing to help whenever you called on her. Joyce is loved and will be missed.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Earl Phillips of the home; daughter, Jenelle Elizabeth Carter and husband Eric of Independence; son , Tommy Phillips and wife Cynthia of Kansas City; eight grandchildren; sister, Betsy Jeffers and husband Rick of Chicago, IL; brothers, Rick Wilson and wife Peggy; and John Wilson and wife Debbie, all of Independence, MO.
