Anne “Marina” Phipps, 63, passed away in her home in Kansas City, Mo on April 4, 2022.
Marina was born on November 4, 1958, in Covington, LA, the daughter of Rollie Holt and Mary Blizzard (Holt).
Marina moved to Kansas City as a child and attended Northeast High School in the mid 1970’s, she went on to nursing school in the late 1970’s, where she enjoyed her time helping people. She then made a career change in the mid 1980’s to begin her work with the Internal Revenue Service, where she worked 20+ years until her retirement in 2008.
To know Marina was to love her. She was the epitome of love. She dearly loved her children unconditionally, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren more than life itself. Marina was always a caretaker at heart and was just that to her siblings growing up, as well as to all her bonus children and grandchildren she took under her wings over the years. She showed the same love and support to all that looked up to her. Being the oldest daughter of 11 children born to her parents, she had plenty of experience even before becoming a parent herself. She was a smart, strong, fiercely outspoken woman who led her family with love and wanted always for them to be united and happy. She passed her feisty, sometimes ornery, never back down attributes to her 3 daughters, and gave them the courage to always be themselves as she did. Being a true southern girl, she loved her seafood and being in KC most of her life she was an avid KC Chiefs football fan. No one was ever allowed to bad talk either of these for fear of that stern “oh no you didn’t” comeback she was so good at. She was determined to remain independent, opinionated and fully engaged with her family throughout her long battle against her illness; she did just that, without apology or exception. Her leadership and love will be dearly missed by all.
Marina is survived by her 3 daughters: Jennifer, Misty and Amanda; her 10 grandchildren: Dominic II, Anthony, Benjamin II, Jaelin, Monét, Victor, Claudia, Oscar Jr, Xavier and Keira; her great grandchildren: Isabella and Dominic III; her father: Rollie; her siblings: Lonnie, Sherry, Brenda, William, Laura and Timothy; all of her children and grandchildren not born to her but brought to her by the universe. As well as other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, whom she endlessly loved and missed immensely, Mary; sisters: Michelle and Rebecca; and brothers: Joseph and Richard.
A visitation to honor Marina will be held on Friday, April 15, from 1-2:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow, at 2:00 p.m., both at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Avenue in Independence, MO. The service will be livestreamed via Speaks Chapels page for those who would like to virtually attend her service.
In memory of Marina, the family has suggested that all guests to either wear their favorite Chiefs gear or something purple, as Marina was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and and her favorite color was purple.
