Emil Phipps, 73, of Independence, MO passed away Monday, July 11, 2016 in his home. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO, 64052. The family will greet guests from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at the chapel after the service. Emil was born in his home in Sidney, MO on August 20, 1942 to Vernon and Loretta Phipps. After high school, he married the love of his life, Rosetta Wassom, on March 13, 1966. Together they have two sons. Emil worked for Montgomery Ward for almost 40 years and was a Union Steward with the Teamsters Union number 838. In his spare time he really enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his family. He was a long time member of Boy Scouts of America troops 368 and 201, the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and he was one of the first instructors in hunter’s education for the Missouri Department of Conservation. Emil will be remembered by his wife, Rosetta, of the home; two sons Jimmy Phipps and wife Marla of Independence, MO, Steven Phipps and wife Pam of Fayetteville, NC; two brothers Keith Phipps of Henderson, TX, and Jack Phipps and wife Pat of Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law Pat Phipps; grandchildren Georgie, Kaylee, and Ashton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Carroll Phipps. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or National Kidney Foundation.
