Doris Ferne Pinson, 98, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Friday, July 4, 2014.
A private family service will be held next week. Burial will be at Mound Grove Cemetery.
Ferne was born December 15, 1915 in Norborne, MO as the second of five children to David Benjamin and Gladys Jewel (Cato) VanTrump. Raised for many years in Idaho, her family later moved to Independence where she graduated from William Chrisman High School. Ferne married Ollie Pinson and together they raised three children. As a young woman she worked for Herald House Publishing but was a stay at home mother until later in life where she worked as a transcriptionist in radiology and an administration secretary at Independence Regional Hospital. She was a life long member of the Community of Christ attending both the Stone Church Congregation and Lee’s Summit Congregation. She and husband, Ollie, would often provide transportation to the elderly for Wednesday night prayer service. She was a very creative person who enjoyed needlework, weaving, origami, sketching, and other handiworks. She is remembered by her family as fiercely independent, loving, cheerful, humble, and very giving. Ferne is loved and will be missed.
She is survived by daughter, Kay DeTray (Edd) formerly of Independence; daughter, Carolyn DeSena of Kansas City, MO; son, Dr. James Leland Pinson of Dundee, MI; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and sister, Marilyn VanTrump of Independence. She was preceded in passing by her parents; siblings, Faye Bronson and Kenneth and Richard VanTrump; beloved husband; and grandchild, Casey Mitchell.
