Jo Ellen Place, 79, of Independence, MO passed away
Thursday, March 7, 2019. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 13th at 1:00pm at Buckner Hill Cemetery.
Jo was bom March 18, 1939, in
Independence, MO to Reece Hudson and Ruth Ellen Vance.
For twenty-seven years, she had a gospel singing career, managed by her husband, Tom, as she
recorded albums and had a
television show in Kansas City called “Praise”, which produced
eighty-six episodes. Jo was highly involved in the DAR and alumni of William Chrisman High School Class of 1957. She was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Independence. She also planned and hosted a children’s Christmas party for her family for over 40 years.
Jo Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Thomas Place, Jr.; her cousin, David Bogue and her step-brother, Jack Eads. She is survived by her cousins, Shawn (Paul) Kirkman, DeeAnn (Ken) Stock, Bruce (Yolaunda) Bogue, Vance Bogue, Jerilyn Womack; her brother-in-law, Carl (Edrey) Place; her step-sisters, Martha Foster and Roma Payne and many younger cousins. Jo’s family would like to thank her special care-givers Monica, Ruby and Stephanie, as well as, those at Kindred Hospice over the last couple of months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the March of Dimes because of their strides to eradicate polio of which Jo Ellen had as a child.
