Doris was born on January 29, 1917, in Sibley, KS, to Ralph P. and Bernice A. (Eastman) Davis. She attended Eudora High School, where she met Frederick Clifton Pointer, Sr. They married, and to this union were born four children. Fred and Doris relocated several times around Missouri and Kansas, before eventually settling in the Independence area. Doris was a bookkeeper for J.J. Newberry, Gambles, Bond Clothing, and Unvarnished Truth, from where she retired in 1976. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ with the Elijah Message for many years. Her great passion in life was sewing, and she crafted numerous handmade items for her family and friends. She enjoyed selling her items at craft sales. She loved spending time with her family, and never missed an opportunity to see her grandchildren and cook her delicious fried chicken for them. Her family will remember her poise and manner of dress, as she always loved to have a nice outfit on and her hair fixed perfectly.
Among her survivors are her son, Fred Pointer, and his wife, Donetta; daughter-in-law, Linda Cheek; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Pointer, Sr.; son, Roger Pointer; daughter, Mary Nell Pointer; son, James Pointer; and a great-granddaughter, Abigail Hartman.
