Mary L. Porter, 71, of Independence, MO, passed peacefully at her home on Monday, March 19, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born August 14, 1946, in Hickory Hill, MO to Eugene and Lola Porter, who moved their family to Independence, MO when she was very young. Mary graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1964. She worked for Golden Point Drive-In for many years as a restaurant manager and later went to work for the Veterans Hospital in the Gift Shop where she spent 25 years. During retirement, Mary enjoyed embroiling, painting, coloring and spending time with family.
Survivors include her daughter, Betsy Porter, and friend Dan, of the home; two brothers, Roy Porter and wife Sharon, of Las Vegas, NV; and Rocky Porter, and wife Melinda, of Kansas City, MO.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Florence Comstock, Joan Palmer, Shirley Stewart, Betty Porter, Ricky Porter and Robert Porter.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during Mary’s illness the last few months. The family will greet friends Sunday, March 24, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Carson-Speaks Chapel located at 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, MO. A graveside service and burial will be Monday, March 25, at Mount Washington Cemetery located at 614 South Brookside Avenue, Independence, MO at 10:00 a.m.
