Walter Postnikoff of Kissimmee, Florida, 74, died Saturday, February 10, 2007 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Memorial services will be 10:00 am Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 East 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Walter was born July 5, 1932 in Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada of Peter and Annie Postnikoff. He married Joy Faith Fisher on August 15, 1953 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where they resided until 1966 when they, together with their 5 children, moved to Independence, Missouri. He received an Associate of Arts Degree from Longview Community College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He was employed by Black & Veatch from 1966 until he retired with over 30 years of service. Walter was an Elder in the Community of Christ church and an ardent supporter of the ministries of his wife, Joy. He never met a stranger, and loved to entertain others with his keen sense of humor and uncanny ability to tell a story. Walter had a love for language and was fluent in Russian often introducing himself to fellow travelers when he overheard them speaking in a familiar foreign tongue. Most of all, Walter loved to travel. He was master of the plane, train, cruise ship, and automobile crisscrossing the globe as he explored new places and delved into the history and culture of their peoples. Walter moved from Independence to Kissimmee, Florida in order to be near Disney World, one of his favorite places in the world. Preceded in death by Joy, his wife of 40 years, Walter has gone on to join his "guiding star�. His years on Earth are best described in the words of a granddaughter, "he lived a long and adventurous life�. Survivors include daughters Cindy and husband Alan Holshouser, Barbara Postnikoff, Judith and husband Ron Yager; sons Mark and wife Cynthia Postnikoff, Joseph Postnikoff; 12 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews.
