Gertrude E. Powers, 85, of Independence, MO passed away July 3, 2004 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Thursday, July 8th at St.Joseph The Worker Catholic Church; with interment in Mt. Washington Cemetery. A Rosary will be said at 6:30 pm Wednesday with visitation following at the Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to American Lung Association, St. Joseph The Worker Church, or Crossroads Hospice. Gertrude was born May 15, 1919 in Willis, TX to Hammon and Eupheme Bonin Harrison. She was a graduate of Spring High School. Gert served her Country in the US Army during WW II. She was honorably discharged in 1945. On June 17, 1944 she married Robert Powers, who preceded Gert in death on November 17, 1991. She was a member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church and St. Joseph United Women�s Group. Gert was a traveler, and did so until her later years. She went on many tours with Richards Fun Time Tours, and Winship Travel. Gert was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Thomas, Jesse, and Charlie, and sister-in-law, Lillian. She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Lynn and husband John Evans of Lee�s Summit, MO, Mary Sherry Powers of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Chad, Sara, Casey, Shana, and Lora; great grandchildren, Christian, Arabella, Dayton, Sophia; sister-in-law, Beverly Harrison; nephew, Guy B; nieces, Kathleen, Charliene, Faith, and Barbara Gay; two special friends, Jo Leete, and Lori Lynn Langley; and many more friends. She will be remembered for her giving spirit, sense of humor, work ethic, and special gifts.
