Joan did not let pancreatic cancer define her. She approached it like everything else, informed and head on. Joan lead a very active life of loving, caring, serving and helping others. Joan was involved in many charitable organizations often serving in leadership roles. A tiny list of her 60+ years of volunteering includes League of Women’s voters, Crossroads Temporary Housing, Governor’s Conference on Education, Mid-America Regional Council on Aging and The Salvation Army. She was a BSRN, taught CNAs and CMTs and administered the state of Missouri certification test – she had the heart of a teacher. Her passion was education, helping those in need and providing a path for others. She was very proud that she went back to college when her children were in college and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Graceland University. She and her husband were co-pastors of their church, South Crysler Community of Christ where she attended for 50+ years. Joan loved the Rocky Mountains, be that camping and hiking in the summer or snow skiing in the winter. She enjoyed the National Parks, particularly Estes Park, CO. She loved to travel and has been to Hawaii, Paris, Israel and the Philippines to name a few. She loved her time at Lake Pomme de Terre where she camped with family and where she met many lifelong friends. She loved attending sporting events such as the Chiefs, Royals and NW Bearcats. She loved quilting and sewing. As much as she loved all those things, she loved family even more.
She was married to Jerry Pratt in 2001, he survives of the home. Other survivors include; daughter, Debie Shemwell and husband Jim of Omaha, NE; son, Ken Scribner and wife Jeanette of Kansas City, MO; sister, Jeannette Alsup of Ballwin, MO; brother, Jared of Woodbury, Oregon; Russ Pratt and wife Susan; Noelle Blosser and husband Kelly; 7 grandchildren, Garrett Scribner, Gabriel Shemwell, Janelle Blosser, Carrie Blosser, David Blosser, Sean Pratt and Ryan Pratt and 2 great grandchildren Quinn and Autumn; sister-in-law, Janet Baker and husband Marvin. Joan was preceded by her parents, and her first husband Neal Scribner and many loved ones.
