Jerry Michael, 76, of Independence, MO, passed away Monday, October 20, 2014. An Inurnment will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. the same day at New Walnut Park Community of Christ, 1137 S Pearl St Independence, MO 64050. An Ice Cream Social will follow the service at the church.
Jerry was born March 14, 1938 in Long Lane, MO as one of eight children to Otto Everett and Mabel (Marshall) Price. After graduation at Central High School, he proudly served his country in the Navy in the 1950’s. Jerry also worked for Montgomery Ward for 37 years before his retirement. There he met his second wife, Carole (Smith) and they spent over 20 years serving each other and the community through many outreach opportunities in the church. He was a very supportive father to two children, going to scouting and camping events with his son and daughter. He is remembered for his loving and compassionate nature, his passion for children and for being very much a kid at heart, himself. Jerry is loved and will be missed.
He is survived by wife, Carole of the home; daughter Bridget Kersey (Michael) of Joplin, MO; son, Travis Price (Tandria) of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Marnie Eckels (LCpl Benjamin), Ryan Kersey (Caravana), and Weston Price; one great grandchild is expected in May; siblings, Selma Hartsell, Otto Price, Jr., Flossie Heritage, Ernest and Dale Price; and special nephews, Brayden and Tyler Hill. He was preceded in passing by his parents; brothers, David and Glen Price; and a granddaughter, Sara Kersey.
