Margaret Evelyn Price (Brandon)

March 6, 1934 — May 19, 2019

Margaret E. Price, 85, passed away at her home in Independence, MO on May 19, 2019. Visitation will be Wednesday May 29 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday May 30 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Home Cemetery in Tarkio, MO.
Margaret was born March 6, 1934 in Detroit, MI to L.L. and Clara B. Brandon. She was the second of five children. Her family moved from Michigan to Missouri in the late 40’s, ultimately settling in Craig, MO. Margaret graduated from Craig High School in 1952. She had excelled in secretarial and business courses and chose to continue in that career path. Margaret accepted a position with the Missouri Utility Service Company in Tarkio, MO. There she met Charles Price, a young man who had recently returned from serving in the Army in Korea and the man who would capture her heart. They were married March 16, 1953 and celebrated 61 years of marriage prior to his death in February of 2014.
Margaret and Charles welcomed two daughters during their marriage. Carletta, Carley, born in 1954 and a second daughter, Sherie, born in 1959. In 1965 Margaret chose to return to her career in the secretarial field and took positions in the area of building loans, private home financing and new housing development projects. She continued her career until 1971 at which time her health became an area of concern. Even during her career Margaret’s primary focus was on being a wife and mother and providing a comfortable and happy home for her husband and daughters.
Her love for children carried over into the years after her daughters were grown and had started their own families. She and Charles became Foster Parents for newborn babies that were awaiting placement in their adoptive homes. Over the years they fostered 13 babies, providing them with a loving start in their new lives. She and Charles also traveled following his retirement from the Independence School District and spent their summers managing various campgrounds for the National Park Services in Utah and Colorado. Margaret was a talented seamstress, loved baking, enjoyed music and singing and loved painting water color stills.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Charles Price, her parents L.L. and Clara Brandon, a sister Deloris White, brother Norman Brandon and grandson Brandon Charles Arnold. She is survived by her daughters Carletta (Carley) Arnold and son-in-law Ted Arnold of Independence, MO, and Sherie Price Cowan and son-in-law Michael Cowan of Lomita, CA. Margaret is also survived by her granddaughter Rachel Matthews and husband Brian Matthews, grandsons Matthew Green and Seth Green, great grandchildren Brian Matthews II, Lincoln Matthews, Celestine Matthews, Elijah Green, Mikayla, Kayden, Natalie and Robby Green and Sarah Crapse.
