Ronald Eugene "Ron" Price

January 14, 1934 — January 27, 2020

Ronald Eugene “Ron” Price, 86, passed away on January 27, 2020, in Independence, Missouri.

Ron was born on January 14, 1934, in Cadillac, Michigan, the son of Ethel M. Oligney Price and Clyde P. Price. He and his family moved to the Independence area as a young boy and graduated from William Chrisman High School in the class of 1952. He married Judith R. McDonald on May 28, 1955 - the day after her high school graduation. To this union were born five children.

Ron worked for Bendix Aviation for a few years before he went to work for the Kansas City School District as an HVAC service technician. He later began his own business, Price Heating, Cooling, & Electrical, from which he retired. Never one to stay idle for too long, he went back to work, this time for the Blue Springs School District.

Ron enjoyed being the patriarch of the family. His favorite place was in the home with his eyes closed, simply listening to the multiple conversations going on within the family. From simple math problems to more complicated life situations, he was always there to give advice to whoever asked. He was especially fond of bread pudding and rice pudding… but wouldn’t touch a meal made with cheese. Family game nights were particularly fun for Ron, and everyone knew to watch out for “creative” scorekeeping and word spellings in Scrabble – but those were all part of “Ron’s Rules of Order.”

Ron was a man of faith – he held the office of Priest in the Community of Christ. He helped build and maintain his home church, the Village Heights Congregation. He was also a volunteer and representative for Outreach International for over 20 years.

He enjoyed church reunions along with camping trips and other gatherings with his family. He had a long-lasting admiration for classic cars. He also created wood and steel sculptures, sketched, read books and research articles, listened to classical composers, and taught himself Spanish. He was strong in will, spirit, work ethic, and character. He was dedicated to his family, friends, and faith, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Judith R. Price; children: Diane E. Pollard (husband Michael F. Pollard), Debra J. Woods (husband Gary L. Woods), Mark E. Price (wife Deborah L. Price), Karen S. Monte (husband Kent Monte), and Kathleen R. Price; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Clyde Price, and three siblings: Mary Lou Brown, Duane K. Price, Sr., and David L. Price.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 3, from 1-2pm, with funeral service to follow at 2pm, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence. He will be laid to rest following the service in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family encouranges contributions be made to Outreach International (outreach-international.org), an organization very near and dear to Ron’s heart.
