Richard G. Pugh, M.D., 99, of Blue Springs, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, November 8, 2018. A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 14th from 6-8:00pm with a service on Thursday, November 15th at 10:00am, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Mound Grove Mausoleum. Dr. Richard G. Pugh was born in Detroit Michigan. He attended college at the University of Michigan and Detroit University where he played football. He graduated from medical school at Wayne State University College of Medicine. Dr. Pugh served in the U.S. Navy from May 1943 to June 1945 where he was a Medical Officer.
Dr. Pugh did a residency in Pediatrics at the University of Kansas Medical Center. In 1953 he started in a pediatric practice in Independence, Missouri. He retired from his pediatric practice in Independence and Blue Springs in 1995 after 43 years serving this area. He treated uncounted area children in this time. He was board certified in Pediatrics by the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Metropolitan Medical Society, Missouri State Medical Association, American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was on the staff at Independence Regional Health Center, MCI, Children’s Mercy Hospital and St. Mary’s of Blue Springs. He was on the planning and building committee of St. Mary’s and was its first President of Staff. He lived in Blue Springs for many years and then lived in Lee’s Summit with a daughter.
Dr. Pugh’s wife of 55 years, Avis S. Pugh passed away in 1999. He has three sons, two daughters, fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
