Virgil F. Pugh, 94, Independence, MO passed away May 19, 2018. Graveside services with Full Military Honors will be 1:30 pm, Wed. at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens in Independence, MO. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Tuesday at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Virgil was born Dec. 24, 1923 in Coahoma, TX to Andrew Jackson and Pearl Bell (Ashworth) Pugh. His family moved to the Independence area and he graduated from Manual High and Vocational School in 1942. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WW II. He married Mary E. (Arthur) Pugh on June 6, 1948 at the Fairmount Christian Church. He was a tool & die maker at the GM Fairfax Plant for over thirty-one years and retired on April 1, 1981.
Virgil loved fishing, golfing, woodworking and tinkering with machine work.
Virgil was preceded in death by his wife Mary Pugh; siblings Dorothy “Dot”, Jack and William “Bill”; son David Pugh and granddaughter Anna Marie Jeffries. He is survived by daughter Wanda Steeby and husband Gary; daughter-in-law Diana Pugh; grandchildren Trina Jeffries, Marlayna Kenney and husband James, Chad Pugh, Kristina Hickman and husband Jeremiah; great-grandchildren Tyler Jeffries, Chase Godfrey, Kole Godfrey, Hailey Jeffries and Easton Hickman.
