Mary Arlene Puterbaugh, 92, of Independence, MO, passed away on February 24, 2021. Mary was born on June 12, 1928 in Hamilton Co. NE, to Clark and Mabel Sawyer. She graduated from Hampton High School in Nebraska, in the class of 1946. Mary met Arthur Puterbaugh, Jr. and they married on September 4, 1949 in Central City, NE. Three children were born to this union: Douglas, Darrel and Sharon. Mary was a full-time homemaker before working for the Board of Education for 5 years as an office secretary. She was a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister, and grandmother. Mary loved sewing, creating crafts, and going to the flea market. Mary is survived by her sons, Douglas, and Darrel Puterbaugh; daughter, Sharon (David) Sterrett and grandson, James Puterbaugh. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Arthur Raymond Puterbaugh, Jr.; parents, Clark and Mabel Sawyer and siblings, Virgil Sawyer, Lucille Springer, and Bernard Sawyer.
A visitation will be held from 5-7:00pm on Sunday, February 28, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. in Independence, MO. A private graveside service will be held for family. Mary will be laid to rest at Cameron Memory Gardens in Cameron, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to be made to the National Audubon Society, in Mary’s honor.
