Marion New Querry, 92, of Independence, MO died peacefully Monday, December 29, 2003. Graveside services will be 10:00 am Saturday, January 3rd at Buckner Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 pm Friday, January 2nd at Speaks Suburban Chapel with a prayer service at 7:45. Newt was born November 4, 1911 in Sprague, MO, the fifth of five children of John Thomas and Laura Belle (McCray) Querry. He was raised and educated in rural Bates and Vernon Counties, MO, and graduated from high school in 1929 in Hume, MO. He married Mildred Christine Farrell on November 25, 1934. They had 2 sons, Marvin Richard Querry and Lyle Keith Querry. As a young man, Newt farmed with his father and 2 brothers, worked in Hume coal mines and was a town and country contract carrier for the KC Star and KC Times operating out of Rich Hill, MO. He moved his family to Independence, MO in November 1941 where he worked throughout WWII and again during the Korean War at the Lake City Ammunition Plant. In the interim, he worked October-April for Blue Valley Transport delivering steel by truck from Sheffield Steel of Kansas City to construction sites in KS, MO and NE. He also owned and operated custom harvesting service, and May-September led a combining crew through the wheat harvest in TX, OK, KS, CO, SD, ND. He then worked as a civil service employee for the US Air Force in the power plant at Richards Gebauer Airbase retiring in 1979. Newt also was president of the civil service employees union at the Airbase. During retirement, Newt and Mildred enjoyed spending the winter seasons at their second home in Weslaco, TX. Mr. Querry was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mildred C. Querry; 2 brothers William E. and Carvel R. Querry; 2 sisters D�Ella Ratts and Irene Lent. He is survived by 2 sons and their wives Marvin and Diane Querry of Overland Park, KS, and Keith and Sandra Querry of Lee�s Summit, MO; 5 granddaughters and their families, Ronda and Dennis Rupp of Osage Beach, MO, Tricia Querry of Belton, MO, Paula and Todd George of Overland Park, KS, Karla and Darrell Lester of Lincoln, NE, and Marcia and John Vinyard of Oak Grove, MO; 10 great-grandchildren, Marissa and Robert Bailey, Allen Salavitch, Matthew, Timothy and Abigail George, Katherine and Audrey Lester, Elizabeth and Hannah Vinyard. Newt, to the end, possessed a sound mind, keen wit, sense of duty, compassion for self-reliance, a strong work ethic, extraordinary devotion to family and friends, and a desire to visit with anyone on any occasion. The family thanks Kansas City Hospice for the care and loved bestowed on Newt during his illness.
