Josephine Rader, 92, passed away on Jan. 28, 2017.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 6-8pm, with Rosary said at 5:30pm, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. in Independence. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 11:00am, at Nativity of Mary, 10017 E. 36th Terrace. She will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Josephine was born on Jan. 9, 1925, in Kansas City, MO, to Karl and Anna (Scripski) Korsi. She attended Manuel High School and married Dee Richard Rader in 1948.
Josephine was a deeply devoted Catholic, and was a parishioner of Nativity of Mary for several years. She was also part of the Altar and Rosary Society at the church.
Josephine was a homemaker, and worked briefly as a cook for the General Motors cafeteria as well as her daughter’s restaurant, Rosie’s Café. Josephine truly enjoyed being part of Rosie’s, and brought smiles to everyone who came to eat. Her specialty was making biscuits, and she made sure that a biscuit was never served until she prayed over it! She was so considerate, caring, and kind. She was a beacon of light and joy, and people loved being around her. She enjoyed feeding the birds in her yard, and could cut a rug on the dance floor! Throughout life’s twists and turns, Josephine remained ever positive and faithful, and instilled those qualities in her children and grandchildren.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Dee, and siblings, Mary Besser, Jackob Korsi, Frances Lane, Lily Vidovich, and Joseph Korsi.
Josephine is survived by her children: Janice Marie Watkins (husband, Lee), Thomas Richard Rader, Margaret Ann Whitington (husband, Mark), and Rose Mary Whitehead; and 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
