Jean was born on January 28, 1925, in Lamoni, Iowa, to Charles and Mary Nettie Cramblett. Jean was the oldest of three girls. After graduating from Lamoni High School in 1943, Jean graduated from Graceland College. Jean then married M.L. Rains and had a son, Randy Rains, and a daughter, Nora Rains. Jean was a stay-at-home mother. Later, Jean went back to school and graduated from Central MO State University with a degree in Special Education, teaching for many years at Lakeview Woods School for Handicapped Children in Lee’s Summit, retiring in 1990. Jean really enjoyed working with children with special needs and had the patience of a saint. Jean was very active in the Blue Ridge Congregation Community of Christ in Independence, MO. Some of her duties included teaching Sunday school, assisting as a Den mother in Cub Scouts, assisted with cooking for special events and welcome host. Eventually Jean became a Deacon, then had the privilege of becoming a High Priest in the church. After retiring, Jean enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing, and was an avid reader. Jean also continued volunteering and remained active in church.
Jean is survived by her two children, Randy Rains and Nora Rains; three grandchildren, Steven Rains, Megan Rains, and Hillary Rains; and sister, Margaret Kent.
She was preceded in death by her husband, M.L. Rains, in 1976; and her sister.
