Harley Gene Ramey Sr.

July 10, 1940 — January 25, 2014

Harley Gene Ramey, Sr., 73, Buckner, MO passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

Harley was born July 10, 1940 in Western Grove, AR the son of Rual James and Irene (Scott) Ramey. Harley worked for 27 years with General Motors retiring in 1990 and was a member of the UAW Local 31. He continued to work as a custodian with the Ft. Osage School District until 2001. Harley was a former member of the Kansas City Baptist Temple where he served as a Deacon. He was a current member of the First Bible Baptist Church in Blue Springs and was proud that he received Christ in October 1960 while attending the Youth for Christ in Kansas City. Harley enjoyed woodworking, coon hunting and riding horses. Harley was well known for his bluegrass guitar playing and singing. Along with his family bluegrass and gospel group, he was a member of the Habot and KC Bluegrass Clubs and a band member of Friends of Habot.

Survivors include his loving wife, Lorene of 52 years; son, H. Gene Ramey, Jr. and his wife Jennifer; daughter, Renee Quimiro and her husband Daniel; grandchildren, Mindi Patterson, Joshua, Caleb and Savannah Ramey, Felicia McKay, and Jeremy Quimiro; 12 great grandchildren; mother, Irene Ramey; brother, Kenneth Ramey; step-mother, Lois Dean; and additional nieces, nephews and family.

Harley was preceded in death by his brother, James Harold Ramey, step-sister, Jo Ramey and his father, Rual Ramey.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at First Bible Baptist Church, 1441 SE Adams Dairy Pkwy, Blue Springs, MO 64014. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at First Bible Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Buckner Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Bible Baptist Church.
