Nieves Rangel (Moreno Palmero), 89, of Peculiar, MO, left this world for a better place on November 12, 2021, at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, MO. Born August 1932 in the province of Las Villas, Cuba, Nieves immigrated to New York City in 1956 with her husband Manuel, and son Manuel Antonio, after finishing her degree in Home Economics at the Escuela de Hogar “Marta Abreu” in Santa Clara. While in New York City, she and Manuel brought two more children into the world (Lucila and Max) and lived a simple life in the southwestern section of the Bronx.
In 1967, she moved with her family to the Kansas City metropolitan area, where she resided for the remainder of her life. While remaining a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Nieves also held various part-time and full-time jobs throughout her life, from working in a hat factory in New York when her husband was injured and stayed at home, to small department stores as a clerk, to school cafeterias. She also loved sewing, tailoring, and crafts, and was very creative. Nieves loved flowers, the changing colors of the trees in the fall, and holidays with her family. She was a devoted Catholic all of her life.
Nieves was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Manuel; and son, Manuel Antonio; and is survived by her daughter, Lucila; son, Max (of Houston, TX); grandsons, Matthew and Mark; granddaughter, Natalie; great-grand-daughter, Katharine Marie; sister, Concepcion Garcia (of Houston, Texas); and many friends and relatives who loved her and will miss her.
