Ruben R. Rangel passed away at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence on Sunday, July 11, 2021. Ruben was born on August 29, 1976 to Martin and Petra Rangel, in Independence, Missouri. Ruben attended Holy Family and Claremont Grade Schools, and graduated from Fort Osage in 1994.
After high school, Ruben worked at Brown’s Furniture before becoming employed at Ford Motor Company. He was a proud member of the United Auto Workers Local 249. Ruben drove a fork lift, was a VCAP committee member, and served as a union steward. Ruben was a devout Catholic and was a 4th degree knight for the Knights of Columbus Council 10746. He was a gentle giant with a huge loving, caring and giving heart, and there was no bigger fan of the Chiefs. If he wasn’t at Arrowhead on a football Sunday, he was somewhere rooting loud and proud.
Ruben was preceded in death by his father, Martin P. Rangel, and his sister, Angela Rangel. After his father passed, he was his mother’s rock. He is survived by his partner of 12 years, Shelly Straub, and his “woos”, Bella; his mother, Petra Rangel; his brothers, Tony Rangel, Mike Constant and wife Amber, Jim Constant and wife Natalie, Felipe Rangel and wife Julie; sister, Laura Rangel; 13 nieces and nephews; 9 great-nieces and nephews, a large extended family, many friends and his true love, Faith Angel Rangel.
A visitation to honor Ruben will be held on Saturday, July 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., The Rosary will begin at 12:30 p.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:00 p.m., both at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 600 N. Liberty Street, Independence, MO 64050. Ruben will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence, MO. To ensure everyone is protected, the family has requested that all guests are to please wear a mask and for those who haven't already done so, to please get vaccinated for COVID19.
