Martha Rathbun

August 31, 1934 — July 25, 2017

Martha Rathbun, 82, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017. A visitation will be held from 9-10am on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO, 64052. A service will follow at 10am at the chapel.

Martha was born on August 31, 1934 in Excelsior Springs, MO to John and Mahala (Blakely) McKenzie. After high school she married the love of her life, Donald Rathbun, in 1957. Together they had 4 children. Martha enjoyed watching sports, especially Len Dawson and Arnold Palmer. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. She worked many years for the Social Security Administration where she earned the Commissioner’s Citation in 1990 and Employee of the Year in 1991.

Martha will be remembered by her daughter Cynthia Vaught and husband Randy of Independence, MO, daughter Karen Porter of Blue Springs, MO; son David Rathbun of Independence, MO; 8 grandchildren Donald Vaught (Ghislaine), Brian Porter (Karyn), Leah Fitzpatrick, Rachel Walker (Jermey), Kristopher Vaught, Jennifer Porter, Saundra Anderson (Chris), and Andrew Vaught; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son Michael, her beloved husband, and great-grandson Emery.
