Ruth Raveill Rightmyer

Ruth Ella Raveill Rightmyer, 86 of Independence, MO passed away Monday, October 15, 2018 at Rosewood Health Center. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Village Heights Community of Christ, 1009 Farview Drive, Independence, Mo 64056. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Saturday at the church. Donations may be made in her name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Ruth was born October 23, 1931 in Independence, MO to Earl and Altha (Koehler) Belscamper. Much of her youth was spent living in Washington, D.C. where her father worked for the USDA but spent summers with her grandparents, Gus and Edith Koehler in rural Independence. The family returned in Independence in 1940 and she graduated from Northeast High School in 1947. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from University of Central Missouri and taught in Belton, Chilhowee, Wellington and Fisher, IL before she had children. After her children were older, she earned her master’s degree in library science from UCM and was the librarian at Fort Osage Junior High School for 21 years.
Ruth was a person who always keep busy. She tried to read nearly every juvenile fiction book in her library so she could match students up with books they might be interested in and also enjoyed murder mysteries. She had many craft interests including quilting, knitting, crocheting, counted cross-stitch and sewing for her family. Giving away dolls complete with an extensive wardrobe of was something she enjoyed doing.
Ruth was married to Jack Raveill on June 1, 1951 in Independence and divorced in 1971. She married Donald Allen Rightmyer on August 10, 2008 in Independence. Survivors include; her husband of the home; 2 sons, James Raveill (B.J.) of Arlington, VA and Jay Raveill (Selene Nikaido) of Warrensburg, MO; 2 daughters, Carol VanNoorloos-Gelabert (Pedro) of Allen, TX and Chris Yaeger (Bill) of Independence, MO; a sister, Alice Belscamper of Independence, MO; a niece she considered a daughter, Anne (Hoover) Monaco (Steve); 6 grandchildren, Joshua Yaeger, Jonathan Yaeger (Anna Liu), Hannah VanNoorloos, David VanNoorloos, Shelley Gordon and Gabriel Gelabert.
