Raven Marie Penner passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, at 5:00 A.M. Raven was born on May 21, 1968, in Kansas City, Missouri to John and Dorathy (Rosamond) Keane.
She graduated from Hickman Mills High School in the class of 1986.
She married Dan Penner on September 11, 2016, but they had been a couple since 2009.
Raven was a pastry chef; a published author, with her two books The 9th Brother and Out of the Woodwork; and the Founder and Executive Director of Hope for Home and Family, a free store that operated in Lee's Summit and Raytown, MO.
She was a member of Connection Point Church in Raytown, MO and of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), which celebrated pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat and culture. She also loved collecting elephants, fairies and unicorns; the color purple; and coloring thank you pictures for all the nurses who helped her since June. She had the opportunity to visit Graceland, Elvis' home in Nashville, TN, with which she and Dan had multiple adventures.
She was an educated, well-spoken woman, who was passionate about her belief in Jesus, her family, her charity and her rescue pets. She will be missed for the unique person she was.
Raven is survived by: her husband Dan; her sons Laird and Clifton (Reno) Vaughan and several stepchildren, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, John and Dorathy; and her stillborn son, Lucas Vaughan.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 1, from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at Carson-Speaks Chapel in Independence, Mo. Guests may arrive as early as 9:00 A.M. and visit together until 11:30 A.M. following the service. A small dinner will be provided for very close family and friends at Connection Point Church at 12:00 P.M. Enter through the doors under the large awning at the back of the church off 75th St.
Contributions are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City or as a donation to help offset funeral expenses.
