Jack V. Read, 93, of Cameron, MO, and most recently of Raymore, MO, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00am on Monday, June 10th with a service following at 10:00am, both at Fellowship Baptist Church, 901 E 23rd St S, Independence, MO 64055. He graduated from Coffey High School and went on to work for 40 years in the railroad industry, mainly as a Train Controller for the Burlington-Northern Railroad. Jack was also a life-long member of the Disciples of Christ church, first in the Cameron congregation and then most recently, at the Foxwood Springs of Raymore. He loved his days of running track in high school, avidly following baseball and tenderly keeping a tomato garden, of which he faithfully served those in his community for over 15 years. But nothing compared to his time as “Grandad”. His children and grandchildren brought him his greatest joy. Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Louise Read; his son, George Michael Read and five of his siblings. He is survived by his son, Vic (Paula) of Independence and his daughter, Cindy (Sam) Brown of Kansas City, MO; his grandchildren, Maggie Brown of Boulder, CO, Mack Brown of Madison, NJ, Brett (Laura) Read of Independence, Brian Read of Blue Springs, MO, Nicki (Trent) Roehler of Lee’s Summit, and Michael (Katie) Harmsen of Grain Valley; his great-grandchildren, Arlo, Easton, Avery, Trenton, Carter, Grace, Cain, and one on the way; as well as, his sister, Margaret McComas of Glenwood, IA.
