Hal A Reed Jr. 83, of Independence, MO entered into the loving arms of His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ
on March 30, 2017. Hal was born in Kansas City, MO to Hal A Reed Sr. and Edith Reed on October 24, 1933.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Thelma Louise Adams.
Hal leaves the love of his life of 61 years his wife, Ruth Reed, daughters Cindi Skeen and husband David Skeen of Lees Summit, MO., Mindy Torello of Independence, MO. (husband Steve Torello of Bryan, TX) and Son, Dennis Hal Reed and wife Julie Reed of Blue Springs, MO.
Hal’s passion and pride were his six grandchildren: Matt Skeen (Janel), Megan (Skeen) Luster (Kyle), Rachel Reed, Jacob Hal Reed, Caleb & Jennifer Torello (TX) and three great-grandchildren: Gracin and Kendrik Skeen and Lane Luster.
Hal graduated from Northeast High School where he played football and ran track. Hal represented his school in the Missouri state meet where he took 2nd place in the high jump. He was also a multi-sport youth coach, where he led one of his basketball teams to an impressive 26-0 record over the course of two years. He was manager of HiBoy youth Baseball team. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and was a big supporter of all the local teams, especially the Kansas City Royals.
Hal served in the US Army 1955-1957 in Ft. Lee, Virginia.
Hal worked for 40 years at KCPL and retired in 1994.
He was a member of the Maywood Baptist Church where he faithfully served in many capacities for the last 35 years. Hal was also a do-it-yourself handyman, who consistently gave of his time to his family, friends and community whenever a need was present.
Hal was a great cook, family favorites included his smoked ribs and french fries. Not to forget, his skill for baking Chip-Chocolate cookies, carrot cake and trying new recipes to share with others.
Most of all Hal loved to take care of his family with any help that they needed and loved giving gifts.
Services will be held Monday April 3rd 2017 at Maywood Baptist Church 10505 E Winner Rd, Independence, MO 64052
Visitation 9:30-11 AM with services beginning at 11.
