Phyllis Sue Renshaw

Phyllis Sue Renshaw, 76, is in God's hands as of 8:00am on February 3, 2021 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born March 24, 1944 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. She was the fifth of thirteen children of Estel H. and Nettie Louise (Manasco) Renshaw.
Phyllis graduated from East High School, Kansas City, Missouri in 1963. She was a member of the National Honor Society, church choir and National 4-H. Phyllis then continued her education at Park College in Parkville, Missouri from 1963-1967 in Elementary Education with a minor in Anthropology. She gave much credit for her education to the Sertoma & La Sertoma Clubs of Kansas City and to the Kansas City Board of Education. Phyllis continued her training in education at the University of Missouri at Kansas City with a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. Her intense desire to be the best teacher she could be, she took an additional sixty plus graduate hours up to her retirement in 1997. Phyllis's teaching career of thirty-eight years included thirty years at Southeast Elementary in the Park Hill School District from 1967-1997 and eight years at Oakhill Day School (2000-2008) in Gladstone, Missouri. She was honored as Park Hill's "Teacher of the Year" in 1989 and Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce's "Excellence in Education" Teaching Award.
Phyllis treasured the years working with the Learning Exchange of Kansas City and Parkhill in teaching fellow colleagues' education courses. As well as her membership in the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority. She leaves a legacy of students she touched during her career, including children of former students.
Phyllis's most important life experiences have been the ones involving Jesus Christ. Most special of those were her years at Immanuel Baptist Church in Independence, Missouri. She was involved in the choir, taught an adult women's Sunday School class, Women on Mission, and committees. Her walk with God included thirteen plus years in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF).
Phyllis was preceded in death by her father Estel H. Renshaw (1963), her mother, Nettie L. (Manasco) Renshaw (2007), brothers: Walter Thomas, Larry Bill, John Wayne and Gary Anthony, sisters: Georgia Thelma, Helen Loretta, Beverly Jean and Stella Paulette.
She is survived by four sisters: Barbara Ann, (St. Louis, MO), Mary Maxine, (Las Vegas, NV), Norma Fay, (Shawnee, KS) and Rose Marie, (Kansas City, KS) and a multitude of nieces & nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews and even great-greats! She was also blessed with wonderful, faithful friends, especially Dolly McDaniel and Anita Yingling.
Due to COVID restrictions the service will be private. The public is welcome to watch the live stream on Saturday, February 13th at 10:00am. There will be a link provided via facebook. Burial will be held at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, Missouri. Arrangements- Speaks Suburban Chapel 39th Street, Independence, MO.
