June A. Rhoads, 74, of Independence, MO, passed away, Thursday February 3, 2005 at her residence. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 7, 2005 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO. Burial will be in Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday at the chapel. Donations to Wayside Waifs. June was born June 30, 1930 in Kansas City, Mo to John Wesley and Emily (Strodtman) Plattenburg. She grew up and graduated high school in Lowry City, MO in 1948. She met and later married Stanley R. Rhoads in 1948, they moved to Kansas City in 1951, when he went to work for Ford Motor Company. She was a soda jerk in the early 1950�s in downtown Kansas City. She was a mother, a homemaker, scout mother and enjoyed making crafts and had worked for the Senior Citizens Craft Shop on the Independence Square. She enjoyed animals and was very active in animal rites and the overall welfare of animals. She was known as a feisty lady who wasn�t afraid to take up a cause to any length. She is survived by her daughter, Jenny Lindstrom and her husband Ron of Sugar Creek; a son Steve Rhoads and his wife Marilyn of Seminole, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley R. Rhoads in 1994; 2 sons, Lonnie Rhoads in 1948 and Jimmie Rhoads in 1992; and her brother who died in March of 1945 during WWII.
