Charleen Rhodes, 90, of Raytown, MO, passed away Wednesday February 24, 2016. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO, 64055. An 11:00 a.m. graveside service will follow .at St. Luke’s Evangelical Free Church Cemetery in Wellington, MO. Charleen was born on August 14, 1925 in Wellington, MO to Charles and Selma Hilker. She worked for many years in her own shop as a hair dresser. She volunteered with her church, the Red Cross and gave historical tours in the city of Independence. Charleen was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and she was also a member of Young Matrons. She enjoyed reading, baking, jigsaw puzzles and watching the Royals. She will be remembered by her daughter Pamela Cross and husband Jerry of Independence, MO; son Terry Rhodes and wife Karen of Larned, KS; and 2 grandchildren Jennifer Cross and Michael Rhodes. Charleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Earl in 1989. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
