Winifred Lee Rice was called home on Saturday, May 13, 2023. She was 88 years old. Winnie was born to A. H. “Scotty” and Mary Kilpatrick on February 10, 1935 in Independence, Missouri.
Winnie was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, musician, secretary, teacher and dear friend. She married the love of her life, Jerry on June 22, 1962 and they spent 61 incredible years creating memories together. In Jerry’s words Winnie was “The sweetest woman he’d ever met”. She was a selfless woman and spent her life serving others and her Lord. She successfully established 17 households in 2 countries, 7 states as a military wife and a wife in ministry with her husband. Winnie also helped to start 3 churches and 4 Christian schools in her lifetime. She was able to do this all while taking care of her family, raising 2 children and one foster child. Winnie spread love and joy to others every single day of her life. Her witty sense of humor, kind spirit and generosity will be missed beyond measure.
Winnie is survived by her sister, Marilyn West, beloved husband, Jerry Rice; son, Patrick Rice (Angela) and ; grandchildren, Heather Hoskins (Grant), William “Will” Rice (Kelsey), Ainsley Rice, Kathryn Egelston (Wyatt), Cassandra Chavez (Sergio), Matthew Rice (Miranda), Alyssa Rice (Kristen), Andrew Rice, Vanessa Monsaran (Rick); 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Michael Rice, granddaughter Emily Rice and great-grandson Avery Wayman.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 21st at Englewood Church, 10628 E. Winner Rd, Independence, Mo. from 2-3pm. Funeral service will begin at 3pm. Interment will follow at 10am on Monday, May 22nd at Mount Washington Cemetery in Independence, Mo.
