Donald Alvin Rich, 87, of Independence, MO, passed away Friday, November 16, 2007 at Golden Living Center surrounded by family. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00 p.m. Private interment in Mound Grove Cemetery. Don was born July 20, 1920 in Park Falls, WI to Arthur and Matie Louise (Colbert) Rich. As a young adult he participated in the Civil Conservation Corps in southern Missouri. Don served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Inez Steede on March 11, 1944. Donald had a strong faith in God and was a Deacon in the RLDS church. He was in the Sea Scouts and later Scouting with his family. He enjoyed camping, boating and hunting in his spare time. Donald had a witty sense of humor and never knew a stranger. He was a man of many skills and talents including mechanics, construction and building his own home. He loved his family dearly and as a proud grandpa enjoyed his grandkid’s activities. Donald retired from Herald Publishing House after 26 years of employment. After retirement he and his wife Inez, traveled the country running a carpet cleaning business. He is survived by his daughters Janet Inglis and husband Rodney, Donna Walker, Karen Wardle; son Larry Rich and wife Julie; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Inez; infant son Ray Alvin Rich; two brothers and two sisters. (Arrangements: Speaks Suburban Chapel)
