Sylvia Richards

Sylvia Joann Richards, 81, Kansas City, MO passed away Dec. 31, 2012. Services will be 2 pm, Monday, Jan. 7 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave,. Independence, MO 64052; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 pm, Sunday at the Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
Joann was born Oct. 19, 1931 in Kansas City, MO. and graduated from Northeast High School. She served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. She was the bookkeeper for Platte Office Supply in Platte Woods, MO for many years and also was a seasonal tax preparer for H & R Block in Claycomo. She enjoyed cross stitching, ceramics and had bowled in leagues at Antioch Lanes earlier in her life.
Joann was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy and Shirley and brother Roy. She is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years Ben Richards, of the home; sons Tim Richards and wife Cindy, Carrollton, MO; Tom Richards and wife Tracy, Flower Mound, TX; Todd Richards and wife Shelley, Liberty, MO; brother Roger Henshaw and wife Gina, Kearney, MO; Ross Henshaw, Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren Angela, Benjamin, Tanner, Tyler, Morgan and great-grandchildren Renee and Jocelyn.
