Helen Roberta Ries

Helen Roberta Ries, formerly of Independence, MO, passed away on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, May 15th at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Pleasant St., Independence, MO. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence.

Helen was born October 23, 1924 in Independence, MO to Floyd and Lucy Latimer. She was employed by FHA and the Independence Board of Education. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Independence, and a former charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. For many years, she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Robert Ries in 2008. Also, preceding her in death were three sisters, two brothers, and three infant siblings. She is survived by three daughters, Paula Greer (husband Dale) of Lee’s Summit, Carol Schellman (husband Dick) of St. Thomas, MO and Patti Finn (husband Mic) of Lenexa, KS. She is also survived by six grandsons, one granddaughter, and five great grandchildren, plus nieces and nephews.
