Janet M. Rieske, 89 of Independence, MO passed away November 25, 2016. Janet endured a 12 year battle after having mini strokes that left her unable to walk. The last several years she had been confined to bed. On November 25, 2016 at 6:05 pm Janet was able to experience freedom once again in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Visitation will be from 9-10 am Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 10am at the chapel. Burial will take place in Mound Grove Cemetery. Janet was born on February 27, 1927 to Joseph and Eleanor (Roody) Middagh. At a young age Janet knew that she wanted to spend her life in service to others. She chose the nursing profession to fulfill that dream. Janet was determined, fighting Tuberculosis while fulfilling her dream, she never once gave up. On April 12, 1955 she married the love of her life, Franklin Rieske. Janet was a devoted wife and mother who had very little demands for herself, and always put others first. She was one of the 1st women to be ordained by the Community of Christ Church. It was in the role of Teacher that she flourished, she was able to combine her love of people, and helping others on a one on one basis. In her spare time she enjoyed reading mystery novels, and music. She retired from the Independence Regional Hospital with over 20 years of service. After retirement, Janet remained with the hospital serving in various roles including Chaplain. Survivors include; husband Franklin Rieske; sons Mark, Paul, and James Rieske; 6 grandchildren; many friends in her church community and in nursing.
