James E. Ring, 78, of Independence, MO passed away July 18, 2017 with his loving family by his side. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St, Independence, MO 64055. Services will be 10am Monday, July 24, 2017 at the chapel. Burial with full military honors will take place in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, KS. Jim was born on May 12, 1939 in Morris, KS to Everett and Helen (Enloe) Ring. After graduating from Rosedale High School in KCKS, Jim enlisted in the USMC where he proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War. He rose through the ranks and retired as a Master Sargent in 1979. Semper Fi was not just a motto for Jim it was how he lived his life. He fought for the flag until the end. After his retirement from the military, Jim went to work as head of security for Worlds of Fun and later retired for the second time from Sericol Ink. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, VFW, American Legion, and a Judge for the Jackson County Election Board. Survivors include: daughter Connie Thomas and her husband Phillip; daughter Cathy Meredith; daughter Sherri Ring-Bradshaw and her husband Keith; son James Ring and his wife Angie; sister Norma Jean Wilson; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a large extended family and many friends. In 2005 he lost the love of his life, JoAnn “Judy” Davis Ring.
