Doris K. Robbins (Koch)

Our beloved mother, Doris Koch Robbins, was called to her eternal home November 15, 2021 after 96 years of a life well-lived.

Doris was born April 9, 1925 in the family home near Triplett, Missouri, daughter of Robert C. and Edith (Small) Koch. She was a member of the Triplett Methodist Church and now Buckner United Methodist Church. Doris graduated from Triplett High School, class of 1943, and then attended business college in Kansas City, Missouri.

Doris met her beloved husband, Everett “Max” Robbins, while in high school and they were married on August 4, 1945 on his return from service during World War II. They lived and raised their family in the Buckner, Sibley, and Levasy area.

Doris was a wonderful mother, wife, and homemaker who thoroughly enjoyed the rural home life, raising her children, giving them the best childhood and memories. Doris did extensive sewing for many in the community to include bridal wear, costumes, fashion wear, alterations, and many lovingly made clothes for her children and grandchildren. She was a charter member and officer of the Osage Rough Riders saddle club started in 1959. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary (Brunswick, Missouri). In the late 50s and early 60s Doris was employed by two local businesses. Doris hosted many family reunions and holiday gatherings which included 60 years of the annual family-famous Fourth of July celebrations; eight autumn seasons when relatives, from in and out-of-state, gathered for all-day cooking of apples, in copper kettles, to produce the delicious “Robbins’ Clan” apple butter and canning 270 pints in 2014 the final year Doris hosted. (The first 37 years were hosted by Max’s sister and husband, Ila Jean and Paul Lichte of Lexington, MO.) Doris had a passion for genealogy and amassed a full file cabinet of documents and history of her husband’s and her families. Doris was thrilled to know daughter Kay would be the caretaker of the family records. In her later years, Doris became greatly involved in quilting and the family believes she made close to 200 quilts in her lifetime, gifting these to her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; infant twin sisters; Max, her husband of 46 years (1991); oldest son, Robert Michael “Mike” Robbins (2017); and brother, Richard Koch (2019).

Doris is survived by children: Phyllis English, Raymond “Ray” Robbins, and Barbara Kay Robbins; sister, Ruth Duffield; sister-in-law, Virginia Robbins; daughters-in-law, Teresa “Terri” Robbins and Linda Robbins; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; and, many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions suggested to: Buckner United Methodist Church, Buckner, Missouri or McCullough Cemetery, Triplett, Missouri.

A visitation to honor Doris will take place on Friday, November 19, 2021, from 5-7:00 p.m., at Speaks Buckner Chapel, 300 Adams, Buckner, MO 64016. A service will be held the following day, Saturday, November 20, at 10:00 a.m., at Buckner United Methodist Church, 109 S. Hudson St., Buckner, MO 64016.
