Robert Daniel Lyle, born on August 20th, 1942, in Rural Prairie, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 26, 2025, he was 82 years old.
Robert lived a life marked by service, love of family and a spirited sense of fun.
Robert’s early years were shaped by a profound sense of duty. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the young age of 16 as a “Kitty Cruiser”. He served as an Engineman, Third Class, aboard the USS Ticonderoga, an aircraft carrier. He was honorably discharged in 1963.
After his military service he met and married Ginger Beckfield in 1967, they were married for almost 58 years.
He pursued the trades and became an accomplished class four diesel mechanic. He retired from Cummins Mid America in 2004, he worked there for 38 years.
Throughout his life, Robert was known for his vibrant, fun-loving personality who had a zest for life and adventure.
He not only served his country via the military he served others by being a long-time Red Cross blood donor and champion of “Meal on Wheels”.
Robert and his beloved wife, Ginger, both had a deep faith and were loyal members of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Robert greatly enjoyed bible class while forming cherished relationships with his church family.
At the heart of Robert’s life were his proudest accomplishments, his family. He was immensely proud of his two children and greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His love of adventure led to numerous fun trips with family. We explored Pike’s Peak in Colorado, The Roy Rogers Museum in California, the history of Gettysburg, PA; The Smithsonian museums in Washington D.C.; the beautiful island of Nantucket, MA and Chincoteague, VA; Botanical Gardens and the Zoo in Columbus, OH and we “Kissed the Bricks” at the Indianapolis Speedway in Indianapolis, IN, just to name a few.
Robert’s passing was preceded by his parents, Robert E. and Marie (Oyler); his aunt and uncle, Martha Belle and Jesse Saye; and his beloved grandmother, Rubey Aileen (Kelley) Lyle who gave him his moral compass and his deep faith.
His legacy of kindness, humor and unwavering love will live on through his best friend and wife, Ginger (Beckfield) Lyle; his children, Darin Lyle and Donna (Lyle) Miles (Stephen). His grandchildren Jessica (Lyle) Smith, Jennifer Lyle, Lapo Miles and Kebede Miles. His sister Mary Lee (Lyle) Hlavate (Paul); his half-brothers Max and Mark Lyle, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation & funeral services will be held at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, culminating with a final resting place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. The visitation at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church will take place on April 1st, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, and concluding with military honors and a graveside service from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
