Max Edward Roberts 72, passed away on January 25, 2018 at his home in Independence, Missouri. Max was born in Gardner, Kansas on December 2, 1945 to Charles and Margaret Roberts. Eager to serve his country, he graduated early from Spring Hill High School, and joined the Navy, serving in the Vietnam War aboard the USS Ogden. Upon his honorable discharge, he married Katherine L. Barr and had two daughters. He and his young family settled in Blue Springs, Missouri and he worked for Kansas City Power & Light for several years. Always looking for his next adventure, he was able to travel the world working as an electrician. He was a true “ramblin” man, full of stories that were always entertaining and sometimes unbelievable, but usually true. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan from the beginning, and he loved war movies, Enya (“the greatest singer who ever lived”), the Price is Right, and Seinfeld. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers John and Richard Roberts. He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Valentine with her husband Eric Valentine also of Independence, Missouri, and his daughter Alicia Roberts of Overland Park, Kansas. Also his sister Joann Hamilton of Kearney MO, his niece, Kris Henderson and nephews: Ace and Richard Hamilton, all of whom he loved very much.
In the end, it was his grandchildren that brought him his greatest joy. Ashlyn Roberts, Cameron Allen, Jaden and Landon Valentine were everything to him. He was a loving grandfather that was always a character. We will forever miss and never forget him.
A graveside inurnment with military honors will be held Wednesday, March 21st at 12:00pm at MO State Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville.
