Douglas “Doug” Robins, 86, of Independence, MO passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family and friends on Saturday August 7, 2021. A visitation will be held from 1-2pm on Thursday, August 12th with a service following at 2pm, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E 39th St; Independence, MO 64055.
Doug was born on October 7, 1934 in Grundy Center, IA to Arthur and Louise (Hull) Robins. He graduated high school and enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the time of the Korean Conflict. Doug was always interested in cars and trucks. From the time he was young, he worked in service stations or body shops. After his military service, he came to Kansas City, attended Diesel Mechanic School and worked for International Harvester in various locations including Kansas, Missouri and Colorado. In 1981, he began KCR International, with 2 business partners and oversaw operations until he retired in 1999. Doug also proudly served as a Shriner for over 50 years, participating in parades and fundraisers.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ingrid Robins; step-son, Ronnie Rebman; brothers, Tom and Blair; 1 niece and 1 nephew. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his beloved friend and companion, Carol Amtower and her family; goddaughter and her family; nieces and their families; nephew and his family; life-long best friend, Norm Kruse; and countless treasured friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Ararat Shrine Temple.
