Roderick Al Gonzales, affectionately known as Rod, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024 in KCMO at the age of 60. Born in Topeka, Kansas on September 19, 1963, Rod's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his service in the military, and a successful career in the corporate world.

Rod proudly served in the Kansas National Guard for 13 years, a commitment that reflected his dedication to his country and community. His military service was characterized by the discipline and camaraderie that are hallmarks of the National Guard experience.

In additional to his military service, Rod embarked on a notable career in the corporate sector, where he excelled as a salesman at Sprint, achieving the esteemed Salesman of the Year award. His professional life was distinguished by a strong work ethic and the respect of his colleagues.

Rod was devout Catholic often asking for Our Blessed Mother's help. He was a 3rd degree knight. 

He is survived by his mother, Grace Gonzales; his loving wife, Tina Gonzales; children, Marisa, Alan, Jacob Gonzales, Andrew, Ambrosias, Allasandra, Arianna and Anastasia Gerber. Siblings , Elizabeth Barranco (Juan) Larry Gonzales, (Sheri), and Tammy Katsbulas (Joesph). He was also a cherished grandfather to Viviana Lilia Aurora and Graciela Mattie Isabel Gonzales, Paisley, Aiden, Amara, Esmeralda, Laila, Arabella, Alec, and Sophia Grace. 

Rod’s life was enriched by the joy and love of his grandchildren, who were the light of his life and affectionately nicknamed him RaRa. He was Godfather to Joseph and Arabella. 

Rod was preceded in death by his son, Mathew Gonzales; his father, Al Gonzales; nephew Jordan Barranco and his grandson, Rex Funez.

An alumnus of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Highland Park High, Kansas University, and Park Hill University, Rod valued education and lifelong learning. In his leisure, he enjoyed walking, listening to history documentaries and Audio books, activities that reflected his contemplative nature.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the St. Mark Catholic Church 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7:00 p.m., Monday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel and from 10:00 a.m., until service time Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Rod's memory to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, an organization that was close to his heart.

 Rod's legacy is one of service, commitment, and love, leaving an indelible mark on his family and all who knew him. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by friends and family.
