Shirley E. Roe, 82, Independence, MO passed away Sept, 22, 2013. Memorial services will be at 11 am, Thursday, Sept. 26 at the First Presbyterian Church of Independence, 100 N. Pleasant, Independence, MO 64050 followed by inurnment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 am before the service at church. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the church. Shirley was born Sept. 23, 1930 in Bayport, MN. She graduated from Penn Valley Community College with a degree in Nursing. She was an RN in the E.R. at MCI for many years and retired from there in 1999. She also worked as a nurse at games and concerts at Arrowhead Stadium for the Chiefs and was a substitute teacher at Ft. Osage High School. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence for fifty-one years and served as a deacon and an elder. She was a member of Independence Sister Cities, Kiwanis, helped with projects for Habitat for Humanity, and was a host to three A.F.S. students at Ft. Osage High School. She loved to travel and was a big fan of the Chiefs and Royals. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband John A. Roe in 2008. She is survived by sons Jeff Roe and wife Shannon, Thermopolis, WY; Bruce Roe and wife Betty, Independence, MO; daughters Jane Cogan, Blue Springs, MO: Barbara Dent and husband David, Grain Valley, MO; son Jim Roe, Liberty, MO ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
