Roger Earl Varner (1945-2025)
Roger Earl Varner, 80, of Independence, MO, lost his battle with kidney disease on April 4th, 2025. Roger was born in Atoka, OK in 1945 to S.E. "Jack" and Juanita Varner. Roger graduated high school in Perryton, TX then joined the Army in 1968. He served his country in Vietnam, attaining the rank of Sergeant, with the position of radio message router.
On May 16, 1971, Roger married the love of his life, Mary, in Perryton, TX. They lived in Oklahoma for twenty years and moved to the Independence, MO area in 1994. Together they raised three children, Lora, Michael and Robert "Matt." Roger was a meat-cutter for 40 years until his retirement in 2012.
Every Sunday, Roger would load up the family in the car and go for a drive with no known destination or time; but the Dallas Cowboys game was usually on the radio. He loved his family, reading, true crime TV, Diet Dr. Pepper, and mints.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, sister Geneva, and brother Howard. Roger is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary, brother Roy (Alma), children Lora Greb (Mike), Michael Varner (Sandra) and Robert "Matt" Varner (Heather). He leaves 7 grandchildren: Kera Stearn (Korey), Kory Parker (Landry), Alex Varner (Stara), Abby Varner, Audrey Varner, Emily Varner, and Alena Varner, and 4 great grandchildren: Kash, Bella, Autumn, and Virginia.
